PSHME and Learning for Life is a compulsory part of the curriculum for all students.
During Key Stage 4, students will engage with Learning for Life, a programme that encompasses Personal, Social, Health, and Moral Education (PSHME), Citizenship, Work-Related Learning, Enterprise, and Careers Education. Through this programme, students develop a meaningful understanding of the working world and acquire essential skills to maximise their chances of pursuing the education, training, and employment pathways that best suit their aspirations.
In Learning for Life, students will gain insights into how businesses operate on a day-to-day basis. They will learn practical skills such as writing CVs, preparing for interviews, and researching the vast array of career opportunities available in the current job market. Emphasis is placed on developing their ability to navigate modern workplace expectations and to think critically about the many roles and industries they might pursue.
The next two years are pivotal in helping students plan their futures. While some may already have clear ideas about their career paths, most are still exploring their options. To support this, students have access to research tools, including specialised computer programmes, publications, and guidance resources. We also have extensive access to ‘Services for Young People’ who provide regular careers and next steps support to facilitate smoother onward transition. These tools encourage exploration of a wide range of career pathways. Our aim is to ensure students leave school equipped not only with knowledge but also with the confidence and practical skills to thrive in society and the world of work.
PSHME: Personal, Social, Health, and Moral Education
The PSHME curriculum plays a vital role in preparing students for the challenges of modern life. Topics include current affairs, online safety, and strategies for keeping themselves safe. The curriculum is dynamic, addressing emerging issues such as gang culture, substance abuse, and online threats, ensuring relevance to the challenges faced by young people today.
The programme is delivered through a variety of methods, including form-time activities, Friday afternoon sessions, and bespoke assemblies. External speakers, workshops, interactive activities, and educational trips provide enriching experiences that enhance students’ understanding of key issues.
Careers Education and Enrichment Opportunities
Our careers education programme is complemented by a wide range of work-related trips, engagement with industry professionals, and visits to businesses and universities. These experiences provide invaluable insights into different sectors and help students connect their learning to real-world contexts.
Additionally, students participate in activities designed to foster entrepreneurial thinking, such as business challenges and enterprise projects. This hands-on approach encourages creativity, problem-solving, and teamwork, all of which are highly sought after by employers.
Lessons are typically discussion based and are intended to get students to think outside the box, challenge their own assumptions and help them to become well rounded citizens.
Religious Education
At Links Academy, we are committed to fostering an inclusive and respectful learning environment where all students have the Opportunity to explore and Understand the rich diversity of multicultural Britain. Our Religious Education (RE) provision plays a vital role in promoting tolerance, empathy, and a deeper appreciation of different beliefs and cultures, helping students develop a strong connection to British values such as respect, individual liberty, and mutual understanding. Delivered through a broad and engaging programme, our RE curriculum is integrated into PSHE lessons, interactive assemblies, and dedicated drop-down days. To bring learning to life, we also offer cultural visits to religious buildings and sites, providing students with meaningful, real-world experiences that deepen their knowledge and broaden their perspectives. Through this inclusive approach, we aim to empower our students with the awareness and understanding they need to thrive in a diverse society.
